Explore the tranquil Bulgarian countryside on a horseback, paddle with kayak in a river crossing a volcano crater, take first steps in birdwatching, do cooking classes, be treated by local hospitality, collect semi-precious minerals, relax in SPA hotel and many more enjoyable experiences all packed in our 8-day itinerary
Day 1. Meet and greet at Sofia Airport by our representative. A 20-minute transfer to a centrally located hotel in Sofia's centre with variety of restaurants and parks nearby.
Day 2. In the morning you will take a 2-hour guided walking tour in English of Sofia centre. All major tourist attractions are on the list so your family will get a great insight of Bulgaria's capital history and modern way of life. Your next stop will be Sofia Zoo, only a few km from the centre. Then you will be transfered to Kokolandia - an adventure park, where the kids have a little addrenaline and loose some energy. Lunch can be in the nearby restaurants. In the afternoon it is time for fun and action in Muzeiko - a Bulgarian Children Museum. If you are with children above 14 years old then we are well prepared for options as leisure hike at Mount Vitosha - the first Nature Park on the Balkans. Overnight in Sofia.
Day 3. Breakfast and 2-hour transfer to Rila Monastery - the most iconic Bulgarian orthodox temple and UNESCO site. You will be given audio guides to explore the monastery on your own. Your English speaking driver will offer you alternatives for short hikes to picturesque areas and also recommend you restaurants for lunch. Rila Monastery is in Rila Mountains Nature Park - an area with supreme landscapes and pristine nature. An 1.5 hour transfer to Banya, a village only 5 km from the notorious ski resort Bansko. You will be accommodated in SPA hotel (Rimska Banya or similar) with a children's pool and warm mineral water. Free time in the afternoon to relax and enjoy the SPA facilities.
Day 4. The morning will be dedicated to 2-hour horse riding in the valley of Razlog, which is an area locked between the majestic Pirin, Rila and Rhodopi Mountains. Expect fabulous views and tame horses. At lunch you will visit a local family. Children and adults alike learn about local customs and crafts, dishes, people and folk music, reveal the secrets of the beautiful mountain, learn to know the herbs, cut pastry and make home-made candies. Further on you will be dressed in costumes, make woollen jewels, spinning yarns and york, knit on hooks... The entire folklore program lasts 2 hours. Overnight in your SPA hotel in Banya Village.
Day 5. After breakfast you take the famous narrow-gauge train from Belitsa to Velingrad again you will be picked by our English-speaking driver. You can have lunch in Velingrad and then be transfered to Plovdiv. A late afternoon 2-hour guided tour of the Old Town of Plovdiv - a historical intersection of cultures, people, religions and different arts. Special attention will be paid to the Ancient Theatre, Roman Stadium and some of the most representative houses of the Bulgarian Revival Period. In the evenging you will have time for exploration of the city on your own. Overnight in Plovdiv.
Day 6. A morning transfer will bring you to the Eastern Rhodopi Mountains. There you will be introduced by a local guide to the Crater of the Vultures. It is a truly unique please with steep rocks, Griffon vulture colony, calm meandering river and wildlife abundant everywhere. You will be accommodated at a local guest house and taste local organic food for lunch. The afternoon is for birdwatching and mineral (semi-precious rocks) collection with an experienced local guide. Further you can book kayaking, donkey riding, horo (typical Bulgarian dance) lessons of how to prepare the Bulgarian white cheese (similar to the Greek feta) or a hike to a nearby mysterious archaeological sights.
Day 7. In the morning relax and further explore the enclave of Eastern Rhodopi. In the afternoon a 3.5 hour transfer to Sofia. If you are still looking for more cultural experiences a detour to the historical town of Koprivshtitsa can be made, but the transfer time will be extended by overn an hour. Koprivshtitsa is a small town nestled in the Sredna Gora Mountain. It is declared an architectural reserve, which preserves over 250 types of colourful mansions from the 19th century. Overnight in a 3-star hotel in Sofia.
Day 8. Today your Bulgarian family adventure comes to an end. Transfer to Sofia Airport according to your flight schedule.
